TAMPA — A Clearwater man died Sunday night when he veered off Interstate 275 southbound as he was getting onto the Interstate 4 flyover ramp, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The rider, 18, applied the brakes and skidded as he crested a rise in the roadway about 9:35 p.m., the Highway Patrol said. As the road curved to the left, he continued in a straight path and overturned, colliding with metal guardrail supports.

The Highway Patrol did not identify the rider because of the agency’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018 that is meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been made available under Florida’s public records law.
