A man shot his brother in Crystal Beach after an argument just past midnight Saturday morning, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Alexander Michael Paulk, 28, on a charge of attempted murder, police said, and his brother, 36-year-old Ralph Edward “Eddie” Paulk III, is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the brothers argued at a home at 227 Avery Ave., during which Alexander Paulk said that he “had something for his brother” and pulled out a handgun.

The older brother was shot in the lower abdomen and Alexander Paulk immediately ran from the scene carrying a bag, police said, returning a short time later without a bag. The shooting was witnessed by the men’s father, Ralph Edward Paulk, Jr., according to police.

Alexander Paulk is now in the Pinellas County Jail. Police said he told detectives he knew nothing about the incident.

Attempts to reach the father for comment were unsuccessful. The brothers constantly argued about drug problems and Alexander Paulk had told neighbors numerous times that he wanted to kill his brother, according to the arrest report.

The older brother is at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The bullet exited near his tailbone, according to the arrest report.

Alexander Paulk has a history of arrests for battery, according to Pinellas County court records, once in 2019, 2016, 2015 and 2013 and twice in 2017.
