OLDSMAR — Deputies are investigating a murder-suicide at a residence Monday afternoon, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to 1540 Huntleigh Court at about 1 p.m. after a gunshot was heard at the location that morning. Inside, they found Shawna Katz, 41, and John Katz, 53, both dead from gunshot wounds, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
John Katz’s wound appeared to be self-inflected. “Detectives believe John Katz shot Shawna Katz and then took his own life,” the agency said.
His LinkedIn page suggests John Katz was a franchise owner of Jimmy Hula’s, a surf-themed restaurant at Clearwater Beach.
Detectives continue to investigate.
