One found dead after Spring Hill mobile home catches fire

An off-duty deputy got there first and put out most of the fire before firefighters arrived and finished the job.

SPRING HILL — One person was found dead Saturday inside a mobile home that caught fire, authorities say.

The fire broke out in a mobile home in the 7000 block of Sealawn Drive, according to Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services.

An off-duty Hernando sheriff’s deputy got to the home before firefighters did and went inside with a fire extinguisher, fire officials said. The deputy put out most of the fire and found an occupant dead inside.

When firefighters arrived about 11:20 a.m. they found black smoke pouring out of the home. They completely extinguished the fire by 11:31 a.m. The mobile home suffered “moderate damage,” according to fire officials.

The agency did not release the name of the person who was found dead. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatality, while the Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office look into the cause of the fire. No other details about the fire were released by the fire department.
