TAMPA — A 39-year-old woman was struck and killed Friday night as she tried to cross the southbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the woman entered the path of a car driven by a 44-year-old man from Clearwater. The crash happened at 9:12 p.m. near Fountain Mist Drive.

The woman killed was from Summerville, S.C., troopers said.

The driver and passenger of the car were not injured in the crash, troopers said.

The highway patrol did not release the names of the people involved due to the department’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
