Update: Inverness man dies after U.S. 98 crash in Pasco, woman injured

A 36-year-old man from Inverness was killed and a 22-year-old woman was seriously injured after an SUV he was driving turned into the path of a pickup truck and caught fire on U.S. 98 Friday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Around 8:15 p.m., the SUV was traveling north on U.S. 98 toward Station Hall Road. The vehicle entered the path of a pickup truck heading south, collided and caught fire. Authorities do not know why the SUV crossed into the path of the pickup.

The driver of the SUV has not been identified. The injured woman is from Lakeland and was a passenger in the pickup. The truck’s 53-year-old male driver, also from Lakeland, suffered minor injuries.
