LAND O’ LAKES — A 19-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday after he rode his bike into the path of an SUV in the Bexley neighborhood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The bicyclist was airlifted to a local hospital, troopers said. His condition was not released Thursday night.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Courtyard Loop and Broad Porch Run, according to the Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the bicyclist was riding on Courtyard Loop when he entered the intersection. That’s where he was struck by the SUV, which was driving on Broad Porch Run by a 35-year-old woman from Land O’ Lakes.
The names of those involved in the crash were not released under the Highway Patrol’s interpretation of Marsy’s law, a 2018 amendment to the Florida Constitution intended to protect crime victims.
Neither the woman nor her one-year-old passenger were injured in the crash. Troopers said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.
