Brush fire that threatened Pasco County homes 90 percent contained

Firefighters were working to save homes from a large brush fire in Pasco County Friday afternoon.

Pasco County Fire Rescue engines and brush trucks were in place to protect homes on Banner Stone Court and Blue River Drive near Anclote High School in Holiday, according to a news release. Residents in the area were placed “on alert” but no evacuations were ordered, officials said.

The Florida Forest Service is assisting local firefighters along with aerial units from the Pinellas and Hillsborough sheriff’s offices.

Pasco County Fire Rescue tweeted that the brush fire was 90 percent contained around 7 p.m. Residents in the Holiday area can expect to see smoke through the night, the tweet said. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area for hotspots.

It’s unclear at this time how large the fire is and how it started.
