ZEPHYRHILLS — A 53-year-old Zephyrhills man died Tuesday night when he was hit by a motorcyclist while walking across County Road 54 northeast of Zephyrhills, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The motorcycle rider, a 33-year-old Zephyrhills man, received serious injuries when the vehicle swerved off the road upon impact, throwing him into brush along the shoulder. He was wearing a helmet.
The crash occurred at 8:47 p.m. on C.R. 54 west of Forbes Road. The motorcycle was headed west when the pedestrian walked north into its path, the Highway Patrol said.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of the two men because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
