TAMPA — A 27-year-old Brandon man was struck and killed by an SUV early Sunday while he was sitting or laying the middle of Causeway Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the collision occurred at about 6:20 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Causeway Boulevard, near 82nd Street South in the Palm River-Clair Mel area.

A 78-year-old Wimauma man was driving east in the outside lane of Causeway Boulevard when his SUV struck the Brandon man. The driver was not injured.

The Highway Patrol did not release the name of either man because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
