Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday at the intersection of Seminole Boulevard and 54th Avenue North.
Stephan Smith, 56, was traveling northbound on Seminole Boulevard on a Harley Davidson with passenger, 54-year-old Robyn Cox around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Smith attempted to beat the red light when an SUV driven by Kirsten Johnson, 46, was preparing to make a left turn onto eastbound 54th Avenue North. The motorcycle collided with the SUV at the intersection and both Smith and Cox were ejected, deputies said.
Smith was transported to a local hospital where he died, deputies said. Cox remains in critical but stable condition at the hospital.
Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Deputies are continuing to investigate.
