TAMPA — Police found a man dead in a burning car on the George J. Bean Parkway near Tampa International Airport early Tuesday morning.

Officers from the Tampa Police Department and airport police responded to the scene just before 2:30 a.m. The scene was just before the ramps leading to Interstate 275 and State Road 60, Tampa police said.

Tampa police said the man was found dead in a blue, 1998 Toyota Corolla. Police were investigating the man’s cause of death and his identity.

After being closed for an investigation, the outbound lanes of the George J. Bean Parkway have since reopened.

Tampa airport spokesperson Emily Nipps said there were minimal delays to airport traffic because the closure occurred early in the morning on roads leaving the airport when no flights were arriving.
