I-4 exit closed at 50th Street after shooting nearby, Tampa police say

TAMPA — The westbound Interstate 4 off-ramp at 50th Street in Tampa was closed Thursday morning for police activity, state transportation officials said.

Tampa police said in a news release that officers responded about 2:15 a.m. to a report of shots fired and found a male with upper-body injuries a few blocks north of the interstate, at 50th Street and 26th Avenue.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The exit remained closed at 6:30 a.m.
