A 19-year-old Ruskin woman died late Tuesday night after crashing into two oncoming cars on East College Avenue at 6th Street SE in Hillsborough County, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The crash occurred at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday. Troopers said the woman was traveling north on 6th street SE toward East College Avenue when she drove into oncoming traffic. The two other vehicles involved, one driven by a 21-year-old Wimauma man and the other driven by a 21-year-old Riverview man, collided with the woman’s passenger side, troopers reported.
After impact, the car driven by the woman and the car driven by the Wimauma man crossed the west shoulder and traveled into the front yard of a residence. The third car came to a stop on the road.
Once in the yard, both cars crashed into a tree, causing the woman’s car to overturn and catch fire. The woman died on scene. Both the driver and a passenger of the car driven by the Wimauma man suffered serious injuries. The third driver was uninjured, troopers reported.
Troopers didn’t release any information about whether charges will be filed. The highway patrol also didn’t release the names of the people involved in the crash because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
