Man struck, killed on U.S. 41 S by semitrailer east of Tampa, troopers say

TAMPA — A man was hit and killed early Saturday by a semitrailer while crossing U.S. 41 S just east of the Tampa city limits, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident took place just before 3 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 S and Palm River Road. The driver of the semitrailer, a 66-year-old man from Babson Park in Polk County, was headed north on U.S. 41 S.

Troopers say the man walked into the path of the truck and was fatally injured. He died at the scene of the crash.

The Highway Patrol did not release the name of the pedestrian. His family as not yet been told of his death. No other information about the incident was released by troopers.
