TAMPA — A homicide investigation was launched when a man was found dead Friday night after gunshots were reported at an apartment complex near the University of South Florida, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place about 10:11 p.m. at the Willow Brooke Apartments, which was the scene of another homicide investigation earlier this week. Deputies were sent to the complex after gunshots were reported being heard there.
They said they found the body of a man who had suffered upper body trauma inside one of the complex’s apartments. A sheriff’s spokesperson could not say if the man was killed by gunfire.
The Sheriff’s Office believes there may be three suspects in this case. In a statement, Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister asked anyone who knows more about the incident to come forward.
“At this time we do not believe this was a random act and the victim appears to have been targeted,” Chronister said.
The sheriff said this was the second homicide his agency has investigated at the apartment complex this week. Deputies responded to reports of gunshots at the apartment complex Wednesday and found a woman dead in one of the apartments. The next day, authorities arrested 22-year-old Demontrey Jackson on a charge of first-degree murder. Investigators believe the death was a “domestic-related incident.”
Anyone with information about Friday’s incident is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200.
