A 31-year-old man from Spring Hill died Monday morning after a crash involving two tanker trucks on Interstate 75 near Wildwood resulted in a fuel spill and fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers and first responders had both lanes of I-75 shut down after the two trucks overturned on the median near milepost 321.

The crash occurred on southbound 1-75, at mile marker 321, near Wildwood.

A 69-year-old man from Dade City was driving a tanker truck ahead of the Spring Hill man on southbound I-75. He slowed for oncoming traffic but the other driver did not slow and crashed into the back of the 69-year-old’s truck, according to troopers.

Both trucks overturned across both the north- and southbound lanes of I-75.

Fuel spilled, causing the 31-year-old’s truck to catch fire. Osceola County Fire Rescue said about 250 gallons of fuel spilled onto the highway.

The 31-year-old died at the scene. The 69-year-old man was uninjured, according to troopers. Troopers did not release their names.

The Environmental Protection Agency was called to the scene to clear the roadway of the fuel, officials said.
