TAMPA — Five people were taken to Tampa hospitals, including a child, after the driver of a pickup truck ran into a Waffle House restaurant Sunday, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
At about 2:10 p.m., Tampa Fire Rescue responded to the Waffle House at 3009 W Columbus Dr. First responders found a pickup truck had crashed into the restaurant, coming to a stop inside the Waffle House.
The driver was trying to park the pickup on the west side of the Waffle House. While pulling into the lot, he pressed on the gas pedal instead of the brake. This caused the man to drive his truck into the the building. The vehicle came to a stop inside the occupied restaurant, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
One adult and one child were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Three other adults were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The names and ages of the people injured were not released.
