PLANT CITY — An 88-year-old man who had been missing for three weeks was found dead in a field near his home Friday, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher McCullogh was last seen alive at 1 a.m. on July 23. The sheriff’s office said no “obvious signs” of foul play were observed and it is working with the medical examiner to determine cause of death. McCullogh had dementia and atrial fibrillation, and was overdue for his medication, authorities said. He could only hear with the use of a hearing aid.

“Since the morning Mr. McCullough was last seen, his family, volunteers and HCSO personnel searched several areas on multiple occassions looking for him,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a written statement. “We are heartbroken at this outcome, and will keep all those who knew and loved Mr. McCullough in our thoughts during this difficult time.”
