BROOKSVILLE — A motorcyclist died Monday morning after colliding with a box truck that turned into his path on U.S. 41 and Veterans Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred at 11:35 a.m. as the truck, driven by a 55-year-old man from Summerfield, was headed west on Veterans Avenue approaching U.S. 41, also known as Daniel Avenue. A 69-year-old Spring Hill man riding a motorcycle was traveling south on U.S. 41 approaching Veterans Avenue.
At the intersection, the truck turned into the path of the motorcycle and the motorcycle collided with the undercarriage, the Highway Patrol said.
The Spring Hill man, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol did not release the name of those involved in the crash because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
