A 67-year-old woman died early Sunday morning from injuries suffered the night before when troopers say she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Town ‘N’ Country area of western Hillsborough County.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the New Port Richey woman was walking in a travel lane of Hillsborough Avenue, east of Reflections Club Drive, shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, when she was struck by the car. She was transported to a nearby hospital with what troopers described as serious injuries.
Based on crash materials recovered at the scene, officials believe the driver in question was driving a gray sedan. According to the report, the car is believed to have damage to its right headlight. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Highway Patrol at 813-558-1800.
The Highway Patrol did not release the name of the the woman who was killed because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the state Constitution.
