THONOTOSASSA — A 24-year-old Tampa man died when he ran a stop sign in his car and was struck by a pickup truck on U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred just after midnight Monday on U.S. 301 at Jackson Road.
The Tampa man, driving a 2010 Honda Fit, was driving north on Jackson Road approaching 301 when he failed to stop or to remain stopped and entered the path of a Ford F-250 that was headed east on U.S. 301, the Highway Patrol said.
Upon impact, both vehicles spun onto the shoulders of the roads.
The Tampa man died at the scene. Neither the driver of the truck, a 31-year-old Thonotosassa man, not his passenger, a Thonotosassa woman, also 31, were injured.
All three of the people in the crash were wearing seatbelts. The Highway Patrol did not release their names because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the Florida Constitution.
