A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck in Largo and was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday night, according to the Largo Police Department.

Officers responded to incident, which took place in the 100 block of East Bay Drive, around 5:20 p.m., according to a news release. Based on the initial investigation, officials believe it happened after a man stepped out from a bus stop into eastbound traffic on East Bay Drive and was hit by a truck in the right lane.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the crash, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
