New Port Richey man, 89, killed after failing to yield at sign, troopers say

RIVER RIDGE — An 89-year-old New Port Richey man died when he failed to yield at a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, seriously injuring the other driver, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The collision occurred about 10 a.m. Friday at Moon Lake Road and Lacey Drive near River Ridge in Pasco County.

The New Port Richey man was headed west in a pickup truck on Lacey Road, stopped for a stop sign at Moon Lake Road, when he pulled into the path of a car headed north on Moon Lake, the Highway Patrol said.

The front of the car struck the front left of the pickup, sending both vehicles into a spin until they came to rest in the roadway on Moon Lake.

The pickup driver died at the scene, The driver of the car, a 29-year-old Spring Hill woman, received serious injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The Highway Patrol did not release their names because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the Florida Constitution.
