Ruskin man, 45, dies when tire blows and SUV hits tree on I-75, troopers say

The vehicle went out of control, left the roadway, hit a tree and caught fire. The man was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

APOLLO BEACH — A 45-year-old Ruskin man died Wednesday night when a tire blew on his sport utility vehicle, he lost control and slammed into a tree, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred about 7:05 a.m. on Interstate 75 near Big Bend Road.

The man was V-1 was headed south on I-75 when the tire blew. The SUV left the roadway, overturned, hit a tree and caught fire.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, the Highway Patrol said. The agency did not identify him.
