Pinellas Sheriff’s Office employee dies after Park Boulevard Bridge crash

A 60-year-old Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office employee badly injured in an Oct. 13 crash died Friday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sherry Nowotarski was an 11-year employee of the Sheriff’s Office, where she worked as an administrative assistant in the Community Policing Unit, the organization said in a news release.

Nowotarski was riding her bicycle west on the Park Boulevard Bridge on Wednesday when she lost control, falling into the curb lane, the Sheriff’s Office said, A 41-year-old Ohio man driving west in a 2015 Dodge Dart was unable to avoid Nowotarski and struck her with the passenger side of his vehicle, according to the release.

Nowotarski was taken to Bayfront Hospital with critical injuries. She died Friday.

Authorities said they do not believe that impairment or speed were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
