A Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy hit and killed a pedestrian in Largo early Monday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy William Morgan, 29, was driving a marked 2013 Chevy Tahoe patrol vehicle southbound on 66th Street when he struck a man who was crossing the street around 4:55 a.m., the agency said in a news release.

The man was not in a designated crosswalk when Morgan struck him with the front passenger side of the Tahoe, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morgan, who has been with the agency since 2018, stopped to render first aid to the pedestrian, authorities said. He was not injured.

The Sheriff’s Office said it will release the name of the man once his next of kin has been notified.

The crash is being investigated by the agency’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
