A 48-year-old man who was hospitalized after a vehicle struck him while he crossed the street in Treasure Island died Wednesday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Jude Rutkowski was walking across Gulf Boulevard when Jamie McPherson, 45, struck him with the front driver’s side of a 2007 Dodge Caliber around 6:42 p.m. Nov. 27, investigators say.

Rutkowski was crossing in the middle of the street, not a designated crosswalk, when he was hit, according to investigators. He was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he died Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Neither speed nor impairment appears to be factors for the driver, McPherson, according to investigators, but they say that it appears that Rutkowski was impaired when he was struck.

The investigation is ongoing.
