Spring Hill woman, 72, dies after crash Saturday on Star Road

The woman was driving west when she tried to pass another vehicle, police said.

A 72-year-old woman died after a crash Saturday on Star Road in Hernando County.

The woman, from Spring Hill, was traveling west in a sedan when she approached a pickup truck traveling in the same direction near the intersection with Erma Road.

The woman was trying to pass the pickup when she collided with the left rear of the truck, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. After the impact, the woman’s vehicle traveled to the south shoulder of the road, where it overturned several times before colliding with a tree and a fence, the report says.

The woman was transported to an area hospital, where she later died, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Neither the driver nor the passenger of the pickup truck sustained major injuries, the report states.

The crash took place at 4:49 p.m.
