A 44-year-old motorist died early Sunday morning after a Hillsborough driver ran a red light and collided with his pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 3:18 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 60 and U.S. 301 in east Hillsborough County.
Troopers identified the driver who they say ran the red light as Michael Sean Jones, 39. Jones was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI manslaughter, according to the release.
The highway patrol says Jones was traveling east in a pickup truck on SR 60 when he failed to stop for the red traffic signal. The driver who died was traveling northbound on U.S. 301, also in a pickup truck, when the collision took place. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the release.
Also involved in the accident were two other vehicles that were stopped at the red light. Jones’ truck hit both vehicles as it rotated across the intersection following the initial collision. Those two drivers and Jones sustained minor injuries, the Highway Patrol said.
