ST. PETERSBURG — A U.S. Coast Guard crew rescued three boaters after their 24-foot vessel began taking on water in Tampa Bay on Saturday.
The three were found on a buoy near Egmont Key. None of them needed medical assistance.
Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watch-standers were notified via VHF radio of a vessel taking on water. The rescue crew in a 45-foot boat was dispatched from the St. Petersburg Coast Guard station
The owner of the vessel is arranging for it to be salvaged.
In a news release issued Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard used the rescue to remind boaters to wear a life jacket, carry all required safety equipment, file a float plan and check the weather and water conditions before going out on the water.
National Safe Boating Week started on Saturday and several local law enforcement agencies are planning educational activities over the next week.
