PINELLAS PARK — An ambulance overturned after a crash with a sedan on Friday, according to Pinellas Park Police.
The crash occurred at 118th Avenue N and 49th Street around 4:46 p.m. Photos from the Pinellas Park Police Department’s Twitter account showed the ambulance on its side, along with a BMW with a crushed front end.
The ambulance was driving south on 49th Street and the BMW was driving east on 118th Avenue where heavy construction is taking place. When the two vehicles reached the intersection, they collided, the department said in a media release Friday evening.
The ambulance’s lights and sirens were on at the time of the crash, according to Sgt. Roxanne Pohl, a department spokesperson.
Southbound lanes on 49th Street were closed for investigation and cleanup.
Five people were in the ambulance at the time of the crash — a patient in critical condition and four paramedics, Pohl said. All five were sent to the Bayfront Health hospital in St. Petersburg for treatment, where the patient remained in critical condition and the paramedics were listed as stable.
The driver of the sedan and a passenger both refused medical attention, Pohl said.
No charges were filed, the media release said, although the investigation was ongoing.
