TAMPA — A 27-year-old man died Friday after a piece of concrete fell and landed on him while he was working at Port Tampa Bay, deputies said.

Deputies responded to an incident at the port’s Terminal 6 about 6:42 a.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Workers were moving a concrete slab that weighed an estimated 3,000 pounds when a portion broke off and fell onto Brennen Wagoner, deputies said. Wagoner died at a local hospital.

Wagoner was an employee for Orion Marine Construction and the company was working to replace a seawall at the time of the accident, deputies said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
