The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the driver of a silver SUV in connection with a hit-and-run collision early Saturday morning on Orient Road.

Deputies arrived at the scene just after midnight. The driver of a Dodge Neon, heading south on Orient Road near Zeimis Drive, hit a man walking in the middle of the road and knocked him into the northbound traffic lanes, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The driver and other witnesses stopped to help the pedestrian, but the driver of a silver SUV hit the man again, dragging him along the road for a small distance, deputies said.

That driver did not stop and headed south, turning west onto Hillsborough Avenue, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead soon after.

Deputies believe the silver SUV may be an early-2000s Mercury Mountaineer or Ford Explorer and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 813-247-8200.
