Two people were killed and two others were injured when two SUVs crashed head-on on U.S. 19 in Pinellas Park on Sunday, police said.
The crash happened about 7:40 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 North and Gateway Centre Boulevard, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department. Roberto Rodriguez, 25, was driving a Nissan Rogue north on U.S. 19 when he crossed over the median into the southbound lanes and crashed head-on into a red Toyota RAV4.
Rodriguez died at the scene. A passenger in the Toyota, Kim Nguyen, 66, died at a local hospital.
A woman driving the Toyota was seriously injured and a man driving a Chrysler 200 that was also involved in the crash had minor injuries. Police did not release their names.
Investigators do not know why Rodriguez crossed the median, police said.
