One person was killed and two others were injured during a shooting in Hillsborough County on Thursday morning, deputies said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on the 7800 block of Rideout Road, in front of the Get-N-Go, around 10:40 a.m. Once on the scene, deputies discovered that three people had been shot, according to the agency. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two injured people were taken to Tampa General Hospital, where both are currently in surgery, the sheriff’s office said late Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after the shooting, a man approached a deputy and said “he was involved in the shooting,” the agency said in a news release. Detectives are interviewing the man, whom they describe as a person of interest.
Following the shooting, both Clair Mel Elementary School and Dowdell Middle School were placed on lockdown, but have since reopened. Deputies said the incident is not related to either school or any students.
The sheriff’s office said a homicide investigation is underway. No other information was released.
