ST. PETERSBURG — Earlier this week, residents of Midtown on St. Petersburg's south side pleaded with anyone who would listen that the killings had to stop after two people were found dead in an alley on Tuesday. That message appears to not have been received.

For the second time this week, police are investigating a shooting death in Midtown -- this one just over half a mile away.

According to a news release, police arrived at 922 11th St. S. at 8:30 p.m. Thursday to find 58-year-old Rodney Bascomb shot and lying in the street on 9th Place S. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

No other information was available early Friday.

Police ask anyone with information to call St. Petersburg police at (727) 883-7780 or text SPPD and a tip to TIP911.

Earlier in the week, 30-year-old Charles Hixon was arrested for the shooting deaths of Cheryl Lee Casey, 58 and Kenneth Lee Shook, 35, in an alley off 14th Avenue S. and 16th Street. Police said Hixon shot Shook and Casey early Tuesday morning and robbed them. He was arrested the next day.

Residents in the area have grown frustrated with an increasing number of violent deaths in the area.

"I'm sick and tired that every time I turn around there's a murder in the area," Starlette Clark said Tuesday. "The killing has to stop."
