Donations will go to homeless children

Pasco Tax Collector Mike Fasano and the Community Volunteer Corps are seeking donations of food, clothing and hygiene items during August to be distributed to homeless children in Pasco County. Cash donations will be used to purchase additional items.

All Pasco County tax collector's offices will collect the supplies in marked boxes in the lobby, as well as cash in labeled jars on each office's service counter.

Scrapbooking and the grieving process

Gulfside Hospice will host two scrapbooking events to help people who are grieving.

The first event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gulfside's Bereavement and Community Outreach Center, 6224 Lafayette St., New Port Richey. The second will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Gulfside Center for Hospice Care, 5760 Dean Dairy Road, Zephyrhills.

Participants should bring photos of the lost loved one they would like to honor. Refreshments and scrapbook materials will be provided. The cost is $10 per person per event.

Budget, capital plan focus of meetings

The Pasco County Commission will host five community meetings this month.

The purpose of the first four is to discuss the proposed budget for fiscal year 2016; during the fifth, the county's capital improvement plan will be discussed. Dates and locations include:

• 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Historic Courthouse Board Room, 37918 Meridian Ave., Dade City.

• 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 17 in the boardroom at the West Pasco Government Center, 8731 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey.

• 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 in the boardroom at the West Pasco Government Center, 8731 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey.

• 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Utilities Administration Offices, 19420 Central Blvd., Land O'Lakes.

• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 in the boardroom at the West Pasco Government Center, 8731 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey.

Free resources for return to school

A Back to School Bash will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at Ridgewood High School, 7650 Orchid Lake Road.

Free resources, including school physicals, bike helmets, haircuts, dental resources and school clothes, will be provided while supplies last to families from Chasco Elementary School, Calusa Elementary School, Chasco Middle School, Ridgewood High School and Marchman Technical College.

Golf tourney to aid Gulfside Hospice

Wells Fargo Advisors of Trinity will host its second annual golf tournament to benefit Gulfside Hospice at 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at Cypress Run Golf Club, 2669 St. Andrews Blvd.

The event will feature a hole-in-one prize and several contests, including longest drive, closest to the pin and beat the pro.

National Philanthropy Day: The Nature Coast Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will host its fifth annual National Philanthropy Day event on Nov. 10 at Spartan Manor in New Port Richey.

Nominations of community leaders and organizations in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties are being sought in the following categories: Philanthropist of the Year, Philanthropic Corporation of the Year, Philanthropic Small Business of the Year, Philanthropic Service Organization of the Year, Volunteer of the Year in Philanthropy and Youth in Philanthropy.

Winners will be announced at the banquet. Nominations will be accepted until Sept. 18 at afp-naturecoast.org.
