Mayoral candidate Kathleen Ford has filed a notice of appeal following a judge's ruling against her suit to force a referendum on the fate of St. Petersburg's current Pier.
Ford filed her notice Tuesday to the 2nd District Court of Appeal. She sued the city last summer after council members rejected an attempt by the group voteonthepier.com to get a Pier question on the ballot. The group had gathered more than 20,000 signatures to save the 1973 Pier. The suit sought a temporary injunction to halt demolition of the inverted pyramid pending the court's ruling and outcome of a vote.
Earlier this week, the city filed a motion to recover costs of about $16,000 in the legal action. The inverted pyramid is to close May 31, with demolition scheduled to take place in late summer.
