Regional WATER authority taps new leadeR

The board of directors for the Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority, representing Citrus, Hernando, Marion and Sumter counties, has announced its new executive director: Richard Owen, formerly with the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Owen will begin work July 1, replacing Jack Sullivan, who is retiring after managing the authority for the past 30 years. Owen's first official board meeting as executive director will be at 4:30 p.m. July 18 in the Lecanto Government Building, Room 166, 3600 Sovereign Path, Lecanto.

Deadline nears for art council grants

The Hernando County Arts Council is accepting applications from local arts organizations for its annual grant program. All applications are due by noon June 30. The one-page application form is available in PDF format on the council's website, www.hernandoarts.org. Grant funding comes from the sale of Florida State of the Arts license plates in Hernando County, where 100 percent of these funds go directly back to the community as programs or direct grants to qualified organizations. Trees to Rescue event set today

A Trees to the Rescue event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Sharp Tree Farm and Nursery, 12225 S Pleasant Grove Road. The event, a benefit for the Humane Society of the Nature Coast, will include trees, shrubs, food, entertainment and pets available for adoption. The nursery will be selling 3-gallon crape myrtles, with lavender, white and pink varieties. Pets are welcome. For information, call Pat Garland at (352) 238-4705.

Main Street stretch to close Tuesday
