State gas prices are down slightly over the week and expected to continue to drop.
Florida gas prices were at $2.42 per gallon Monday on average for regular unleaded, down 2 cents over the week, according to AAA, the Auto Club Group. Tampa Bay-area prices dipped 3 cents over the week to $2.38 per gallon Monday.
“Declining gas prices are a common sight as we enter the fall driving season,” said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman. “With students back in school, families will take fewer extended road trips compared to the summer.”
Gas prices are expected to decline further in the coming weeks as refineries switch to cheaper winter gasoline blends beginning Sept. 16. According to AAA, summer blends tend to be more expensive because of federally required additives that help cut down on smog.
