Bay area gas prices have increased by double digits since last week, according to AAA, the Auto Club Group.

Tampa Bay prices spiked 10 cents over the week to average $2.43 a gallon Monday. The state average increased 5 cents to $2.46 a gallon on average.

Wholesale gas prices, AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said, could push pump prices lower by the end of the week.

“Refineries are conducting seasonal maintenance, which has had a throttling effect on gas prices in recent weeks,” Jenkins said. “Fortunately, crude prices remain low, as ongoing tension between the U.S. and China continue to worry the market.”

Nationally, gas was $2.65 per gallon Monday.
