Gas prices ticked up nearly double digits in Tampa Bay to start the week, according to AAA, the Auto Group.
Following a 12-cent decline last week, bay area prices shot back up 9 cents from Monday to Tuesday, averaging $2.40 per gallon.
State gas prices dipped 2 cents last week. They averaged $2.43 per gallon Tuesday.
“Refineries are still conducting maintenance, and gasoline demand is at a higher level than usual for this time of year,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said. “This has led to lower gasoline supply levels, which pushed wholesale gasoline prices a few cents higher last week.”
Nationally, gas was $2.60 a gallon on average Tuesday.
