Sam’s Club has made it easy in recent years to skip the cashier and purchase items via your own smartphone in-store — except when it comes to alcohol.
But Sam’s Club announced this week Tampa Bay shoppers can skip the line, use the retailer’s smartphone app and cash themselves out even if their order includes beer, wine or liquor. This is using the same “Scan & Go” feature Sam’s Club shoppers already had.
Sam’s Club greeters will check IDs to ensure underage shoppers aren’t leaving the store with alcohol, the company said. Once an age is verified, shoppers can click “pay” on the app and walk out the door.
Sam’s Club says the self-checkout via smartphone is popular with shoppers. In South Tampa, the chain recently opened a small section of its online orders warehouse that allows shopping exclusively via “Scan & Go.”
