Fresco y Más Supermarket is expanding in Tampa Bay.
Southeastern Grocers Inc., the parent company of Fresco y Más and Winn-Dixie, announced it’s opening a third location in Tampa today. Fresco y Más is a supermarket brand that caters to Hispanic and Caribbean communities.
There’s growing demand for Hispanic products in the Tampa area, Southeastern Grocers CEO Anthony Hucker said in a statement.
The Hispanic and Latino population makes up more than a quarter of Tampa, according to U.S. Census data. It grew nearly 19 percent since 2010 — triple the national average.
The store is located at 7851 Palm River Rd., and was converted from a Harveys Supermarket which is also owned by Southeastern Grocers. It was personalized for the needs of the growing Hispanic community in the area, Hucker said.
The supermarket will have bilingual signs in English and Spanish, a wider variety of tropical fruits and vegetables, a full service Latin “Carnicería” or butcher shop, a bakery with Hispanic pastries like flan and tres leches cake. There’s also a “Cocina,” a kitchen with daily specials like arroz congri and pallet, plus a cafe offering Hispanic breakfast, drinks and sandwiches.
The new store will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Fresco y Más first launched in 2016 in South Florida and now has 27 locations across the state, according to Southeastern Grocers. The two other Tampa stores are located at 4056 N Armenia Ave. and 8424 Sheldon Rd.
