Are you an actuary? A credit counselor? A sound engineering technician?

If so, Tampa Bay’s not a bad place to live.

Those three careers all made U.S. News and World Report’s annual “best jobs” survey for 2022, and Tampa Bay is among the metropolitan areas that pay the best for each one.

The magazine compiles its best-jobs list based on factors like availability and growth potential, as well as benefits like high salaries, agreeable work-life balance and lower levels of stress.

The survey’s top job for 2022, informational security analyst, scored high because “it is predicted to be in high demand, with an expected expansion of the profession and an increase in its volume of jobs,” Antonio Barbera, the publication’s consumer advice senior editor, said in a statement accompanying the survey results.

Tech and medical jobs scored highly across the board, with nurse practitioner, physician assistant, medical and health services manager and software developer rounding out U.S. News and World Report’s top five.

For each profession on the list, U.S. News also ranked the five cities that pay the best. That’s where Tampa Bay came in.

Among actuaries (No. 20), Tampa Bay pays the fifth-highest mean salary at $134,670, a few slots behind Charlotte, N.C. ($148,230); New York; San Antonio, Texas; and Milwaukee.

Credit counselors (No. 86) are also competitively compensated in Tampa Bay, earning $63,540, fourth-most behind Greensboro, N.C. ($85,310); Fayetteville, Ark.; and New York.

And outside U.S. News’ top 100 jobs, Tampa Bay scored high among sound engineering technicians at $71,740, finishing third behind Los Angeles ($89,500) and New York.

Tampa is the only Florida metro area to land on three of U.S. News’ “best jobs” lists. Naples, North Port and Port St. Lucie each made two.

Gainesville is the highest-paying city for financial advisers, with a mean annual salary of $206,120. The Villages ranked No. 1 for occupational therapists, with a salary of $115,920, while Port St. Lucie ranked No. 1 for massage therapists, with a salary of $81,640.
