The Sarasota area is getting another Trader Joe’s grocery store.
Trader Joe’s is set to open in Lakewood Ranch near Interstate 75, the California grocery chain announced last week. The store will open this year but no exact date was set.
It’ll open at 8477 Cooper Creek Blvd. at the Shoppes at University Town Center.
Trader Joe’s will have 10 locations in the Sunshine State once this store is completed. It’ll be the second Trader Joe’s in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, with one in Sarasota on Tamiami Trail. Trader Joe’s has two locations in Tampa Bay, with stores in St. Petersburg and Tampa.
The grocery chain known for selling its own branded products has attracted a cult following, sparking petitions and online Facebook groups of residents wanting one in their neighborhood. There was a push last year to bring a location to Tarpon Springs as north Pinellas County residents have advocated for the chain to open closer to them.
Currently, the Lakewood Ranch store is the only Trader Joe’s location in development in Florida.
