Fifth Tampa-to-Havana route coming to Tampa International Airport

Island Travel & Tours will add a new midweek flight from Tampa to Havana starting July 4, the fifth route into Cuba from Tampa International Airport.

Flights from Tampa to Cuba resumed in September after a 50-year hiatus.

Island Travel & Tours already offered a weekly flight every Sunday, but president Bill Hauf said it was hard for passengers to afford staying for an entire week. Being able to arrive or leave on the new Wednesday flight can only help business, he said.

"We have been running at capacity, and I think this will help provide a tremendous resource for the people who want to travel to Cuba from here," Hauf said.

He estimated that Sunday flights to Havana averaged 106 passengers in the first six months.
