Tampa International Airport was named the second-best airport in the United States by readers of the magazine Conde Nast Traveler.

"Tampa's airport feels like a vision of the future from 50 years ago (because it was), but think of this more as the timelessness of TPA," the magazine notes. "The shuttles taking people from the central terminal to the satellites were unique at the time, and they still function well today. It's an easy airport that's very close to downtown, and that makes it a winner."

Of course, much will change at TIA in the next few months and years. A major renovation project, which is estimated to cost $943 million, will begin in full next year and is expected to wrap up in 2017.

TIA finished behind only Indianapolis International Airport on the best airports list. Palm Beach International finished No. 6.

The magazine's readers named LaGuardia Airport in New York the worst. Miami was ranked fifth worst and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International ranked 10th worst.
