Gas prices in Tampa Bay are on the rise — with a double-digit jump over the past week — but averages still remain cheaper than the rest of the country.
Bay area gas prices increased about twelve cents a gallon over the past week to an average of $2.76 for unleaded on Monday, still lower than the national average of $2.87 a gallon, according to gas price tracker GasBuddy.
For Tampa Bay, that’s almost 12 cents higher than a month ago and 76 cents higher than a year ago, based on GasBuddy’s daily surveys.
AAA, The Auto Club Group, estimated Florida gas prices at $2.80 a gallon. AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a news release that summer increases like Florida saw this week could be due to local refinery outages and geopolitical tension.
